Apple Announces Discontinuation of iPod Audio Players
Apple has discontinued the iPod audio player. This was reported on the company’s website.
“Introduced over 20 years ago, the iPod has captivated users around the world with the ability to take their music with them on the go. Today, this capability is integrated across the entire Apple product line. With the Apple Music app, users have access to over 90 million songs and 30,000 playlists.
The company noted that the capabilities of the iPod are supported by other Apple products. “The spirit of the iPod will live on. We’ve built it into everything from iPhones to Apple Watches, Mac laptops, iPads and Apple TV video devices,” said Greg Joswiak, Apple senior vice president of worldwide marketing.
iPod sales on the Apple website are planned to continue until stocks are exhausted.
In January, 9to5mac reported that Apple had no plans to release players under the iPod brand.
